DISABILITY PETERBOROUGH HOSTS UNIQUE MONTH LONG DISABILITY AND COMMUNITY AWARENESS EVENT
Disability Peterborough together with partner charity Inspire Peterborough are hosting the city’s first Disability and Community awareness raising event.
Over 150 stands will be exhibiting during the month-long event which will take place at The Atrium in Serpentine Green Shopping Centre from Friday 3 March. The event is being held to help showcase the variety of support services available, both locally and nationally.
This one-stop, month-long event will kick start from midday on March 3 when the local Mayor Cllr David Sanders and Deputy Mayor Keith Sharp open the proceedings together with a performance from Hampton Primary School’s children’s choir. There will also be a wide range of interactive accessible sporting activities and well-being workshops throughout the day.
Each of the four weeks have a specific theme with the last few days, up until April 2, available for any other organisation who wishes to participate:
First week: Friday 3/3 - Thursday 9/3 - Sports and Leisure activities.
Second week: Friday 10/3 - Thursday 16/3 - Health and Well-being.
Third week: Friday 17/3 - Thursday 23/3 - Environment, Healthy Eating and Learning.
Forth week: Friday 24/3 - Thursday 30/3 - Safer and Stronger Communities.
Sally Booth, Co-organiser and Producer of the Inspiring Peterborough Radio show on PCRFM said: "We are delighted to have over 150 stalls exhibiting during this month-long event.
“This promises to be a one-stop shop showcasing a wide range of organisations and community groups including local companies: Inspire Peterborough, City College Peterborough and Cross Keys Homes. There will even be a live ‘Ready Steady Cook’ food waste demonstration with Peterborough’s Foodcycle and local Women’s Institute, which is being supported by Tesco who will be supplying the surplus food.”
The Disability and Community Awareness Month is being supported by Peterborough Community Radio, Serpentine Green, Peterborough City Council, And so beautiful… – Beauty Holistic and Hydrotherapy, and Tesco. The event will run from 10am daily with a variety of stands, interactive workshops, guest speakers, performances and sporting “have a go” sessions throughout the month. Peterborough Community Radio will also be broadcasting and interviewing guests and visitors live from The Atrium.
